Vegetarian options in Luang Prabang

Don't worry if you are vegetarian and thinking of coming to Luang Prabang. Laos has some of the best vegetarian food around. There is an excellent selection of both local and international vegetarian dishes on offer around the town. Here are some recommendations from a previous vegetarian volunteer who spent 3 months with GVI in Luang Prabang earlier this year.

The Coconut Garden
- Pad Thai with tofu

Restuarant on the Mekong (opposite the Vane Chalearn Guesthouse)
- Fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce (menu reads peanut sausage!?!)
- Bamboo lap or tofu lap with sticky rice

Hive/L'Etranger (shared menu)
- Set breakfast of muesli, yogurt, fresh fruit with a pot of coffee
- Vegetable pizza

Scandinavian Bakery
- Scandinavian breakfast: coffee, juice, water and an egg sandwich on a croissant with lettuce, tomato and cucumber

Nisha (Indian)
- Vegetable samosas
- Dahl Fry
(actually, all the vegetarian options are good and you can specify spicy or not spicy)

Nazim (Indian)
- Vegetable biryani
- Masala Dosai

The House (Belgian Restaurant)
- Vegetarian pizza

Fried rice & noodle restaurant (on Wat Mano Road, just past the roundabout)
- Vegetable fried rice

Tamarind Restaurant
- Miang

Other recommendations:
Best coffee: JOMA’s. Coffee is organic, fair-trade and delicious. Brewed decaffeinated coffee is available.

Best lemongrass tea: Joy's restaurant (behind the tourist info office). Also has good vegetarian food.

Fresh fruit from the fruit stalls at the end of the day market (across from the tourist info office and diagonally opposite the post office).
