Snacks for less than 50p

When I'm in a foreign country, one of the first things I do is hunt down and try as many of the local snacks as I can. During my first few weeks in Luang Prabang I was always retuning to the guest house holding a plastic bag or banana leaf parcel with something new to try. Often I had no idea what it was, only that it was edible - sometimes i still wasn't sure what it was after I'd eaten it! So far everything has been good, and some have been really delicious. I've listed some of my favourites below. To give you an idea of cost 6000 kip is just under 50p.

Lao dumpling with pork and egg or coconut filling - 3000 Kip each
Luang Prabang sausages - 5000 Kip each
Dried buffalo meat (like beef jerky) - 5000 Kip/bag
Rice cakes - 1000 Kip each
Crispy buffalo skin (like pork scratchings but made from buffalo skin) - 5000 Kip/bag
Fresh or fried spring rolls - 2000 Kip each
Crispy coated chicken legs (think KFC but Lao style) - 5000 Kip for 2
Fried banana chips - 1000 Kip/bag
Bowl of rice noodle soup with pork - 6000 Kip each
Mini coconut milk and rice flour pancakes - 1000 Kip for 6 (See picture below)
