TAEC (Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre)

Tucked away behind Dara Market it would be easy to miss this small museum about the ethnic people of Laos. TEAC opened in 2007 to promote and preserve the cultural diversity of Laos. There are currently exhibits covering 6 ethnic minority groups from Northern Laos with displays of clothing, handicrafts, household tools and religious items. Four of the displays are permanent and they cover the Hmong, Khmu, Akha and Tai Dam groups. There is also a temporary exhibition focusing on the Mun Yao and Mien Yao groups and their religion - Taoism. Although its only a small museum its well worth a visit and it provides an insight into the way of life for many of the people living in Laos.
