Festivals in beautiful Luang Prabang

Today is the Khao Padabdin ceremony day, people visit the local temples to make offerings to their dead ancestors as well as to share in merit-making. This festival includes boat racing on the Nam Khan River that runs into the Mekong in the centre of Luang Prabang. There are markets and side traders on every corner the last few days. Everyone is in a flurry of talking, laughing and so much excitement watching the villages compete in long boat racing along the river. I have seen yet another side of this incredible country.
When I hear somebody sigh, "Life is hard," I am always tempted to ask, "Compared to what?" – Sydney J. Harris
