Last weekend the Lao people celebrated the festival of lights. All throughout the previous week, many of the villages surrounding Luang Prabang constructed large boats out of bamboo and paper, and then decorated them with bright lights.

On Sunday evening, all of the participating villagers gathered together and then paraded through the streets of Luang Prabang along with their respective boats.

Crowds flocked to the main strip to watch the precession go past and to set off all sorts of fireworks and firecrackers. The celebrations continued throughout the night as the parade made it's way to the edge of the Mekong River to cast the boats off downstream.
