The Pakhouane

This is the pakhouane – the floral arrangement that is contained in a silver bowl and is a central piece for all Buddhist ceremonies. It can go from being highly elaborate to very simple. The flowers are arranged around a banana leaf shaped into a cone. The simple and very common flower here, the marigold, is most regularly used. The orange and yellow colours of the flowers represent Buddhism – the colours of the robes of the Monks and Novices.
