Back to Cold River we Go!

The new frontage
After an 11 month renovation during which GVI had to move to Chansavang, we took the opportunity of having just 2 continuing volunteers and headed back to Cold River Guest House in Ban Meunna.

Highly convenient for volunteers due to its close proximity to Xayadeth, along with the lovely balcony rooms overlooking the Khan River, Cold River was a warm welcome back to an old friend.  For several years GVI volunteers stayed happily at Cold River but when they started tearing down the front building (with shared bathrooms) to expand and modernise, it was time to go!
When the demolition began in May 2011

GVI has virtually taken over the rear building and when volunteer numbers increase to the high teens again will find there are enough rooms for us all – a big ask for any one guest house in Luang Prabang.

Sevan, Nit and their family and staff are so friendly and welcoming, and with free flowing bananas, water, and tea and coffee, volunteers are well cared for.  The refreshed rooms offer loads of space and some have nice views either over the river or the surrounding village.

Although I don’t think I’ll be the only one to miss Chansavang’s fried rice and must return for a weekly fix!
