Congratulations to our graduates!

Friday was a special day for many young people in Luang Prabang as the 5 colleges held their Graduation Ceremonies for their Diploma students. Xayadeth College, a partner school with GVI, graduated approximately 50 students from their English courses. It was a really special day as GVI have seen these students progress through from their first or second year. They’ve received many hours of tuition from GVI volunteers and staff, along with their excellent Lao teachers.

As is tradition in Laos, a party had to be held! The college hosted a wonderful celebration for volunteers, teachers, GVI staff and of course the guests of honour, complete with some of the most delicious Lao foods (and some for the braver, such as eel soup!), lots of singing (both Lao songs and popular western music), plenty of Beer Lao, several rounds of petanque (also known as bocce or boulles), a bit of dancing and much merriment. We were joined by VIP’s from the Education Department in Vientiane, and between broken Lao and English had humorous connections.

GVI staff and volunteers wish all the students much success as they move into their working lives, and feel confident that they’ll enjoy much success as a result of their efforts to learn another language. Good luck!
