Temple Visit to Wat Thad Luang

Last week we were invited to visit a very well known temple in Luang Prabang, Wat Thad Luang. It is known as the Royal Temple and has been used for many royal ceremonies in the past. We were first given a tour and shown around the amazing temple grounds by one of our students Novice Somchit who has lived at the temple for three years. He gave us a detailed history of Wat Thad Luang and it's famous stupas, one in honour of the last King of Laos and one in honour of the Queen. The grand stupas were quite a sight to see and held tremendous detail. We were even lucky enough to meet the temple's pet monkey, a gift for the novices from the local villagers. He kept everyone entertained, jumping around the chairs, tables and trees so many photos were taken. Then we entered the temple for chanting. The novices and monks chanted harmoniously for around an hour and also had some quiet meditation time. It was a moving experience and a temple visit we will never forget.
