Wat Mano and Wat Sibounhouang Chanting

Buddhist monks and novices meditate and pray twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. They kneel below their large, golden Buddhas in black and maroon painted temples with intricate gold stenciling decorating the walls. We have been fortunate enough to be invited to several different temples to listen to their mesmerizing chanting. One of our students invited us to Wat Mano, one of the oldest temple sights in Luang Prabang. 40 novices and several monks filled the temple so we all squashed ourselves at the back among the drums. This was a different story at Wat Sibounhouang chanting where there are only a handful of monks and novices. We were invited to this temple by one of our Lao teachers who is a former abbot of Wat Sibounhouang. Both temples left every single one of us feeling calm and content.
